Who is Carter Machinery?

Carter Machinery has been enabling the success of construction and equipment industries for 90 years. Headquartered in Salem, Virginia, the company has grown to be one of Caterpillar’s top-performing equipment dealers serving customers in Virginia and West Virginia and employing a world-class team of more than 1,350 employees. Carter’s diverse business portfolio supplies machinery, rentals, parts and service to customers across many industries, leading the market in construction, mining, and supplying Virginia’s largest and best-maintained rental inventory.

When will the acquisition be complete?

Carter is expected to complete its acquisition of Alban by the end of the first quarter of 2020.

How does this decision benefit Carter and Alban customers?

This acquisition positions Carter to scale its decades of high performance to expand into new territories, serve an even broader customer base and grow into one of the leading equipment and services dealers in the country.

Alban offers a unique combination of assets in support of Carter’s goals: proximity and service to growing infrastructure, existing supply of critical power generation systems to major global innovators, and significant opportunities to support customers’ rental needs. In short, this acquisition enables Carter to strengthen its pool of assets to the benefit of our customers and the communities in which they do business.

What can customers expect next?

Our combined teams will continue to offer superior sales, rental and product support to manage your needs and ensure continuity of service. All customers will now have access to a larger fleet of Caterpillar equipment and parts inventory, as well as increased options for rental and technician services to further reduce the risks of downtime to your business.

Our commitment to you is to minimize disruption to our customers during the transition. Your current representative(s) will be in regular contact with you to answer questions, provide updates or alert you to any changes.

Will this acquisition affect the people I work with, such as my sales or product support rep?

To the extent possible, we will work hard to help you maintain your important business relationships with our sales and support teams. For now, please continue to work with your familiar branch and current representatives to address any needs you have. There are some instances of customers that are currently being serviced by both teams, which will need to be evaluated. Changes may come and we will work closely with those customers and their representatives to ensure any transitions are handled smoothly.

Will this acquisition impact any current orders or rentals I have in progress?

We do not expect any delay or impact to sales or rentals.

Should I expect changes to pricing, discounts or specials?

Your sales representatives will keep you apprised of any changes. We will continue to offer excellent customer service and premium products at a competitive rate.

Will this affect my ability to purchase or rent equipment from my preferred brand?

There should be no disruption to your ability to access equipment or parts from any of our 75 supported brands. Carter is a nationally recognized dealership for Caterpillar equipment and nearly 99% of CAT parts will be available same day, by 6 a.m. next-day, or through our emergency 24/7 call-in service. This acquisition will increase our supply and allow us to serve customers faster.

Will this impact my customer credit status or require me to reapply for credit with Carter?

Your credit status and limit will not be impacted as your account transitions to Carter. We may request an updated credit application based on the date of your previous application, an equipment financing request, changes with your company name or ownership, or large purchases that significantly exceed prior spending history.

There could be slight changes to account numbers or payment terms, but anticipate no major differences.

Will my remit to address for payments change?

Not immediately, but it will change in the future. We will let you know in advance when the changes need to be made.

Will my contact change for open account questions?

There will be no immediate change. We will let you know in advance if your contact name and contact information will change.

Who can I contact with general questions?

As we work through this transition, we know you will have questions. Please feel free to contact your current sales representative with any questions. While we may not have answers immediately, we are committed to keeping you apprised of information as it becomes available and will work to answer your questions quickly and accurately.
